First CQ Block

This was a very trying block. I have done one cq block where you had the pattern then just sewed all the peices together. This one I cut out the center piece and went along sewing the pieces together in a clockwise manner. No patterns, just going for it. Did great till I got around to the right side then I had one long straight piece. Kept thinking this isn't going to work. Well, after thinking of how I could overcome this problem I had gotten myself into, I finally decided to do it this way and put the dk red violet in and then applique the piece over it. I also done a smaller piece over the yellow orange with a light blue green.
The center piece is off my husband's tie. Clark Gabel and Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With the Wind. Her dress was a blue green so I chose the triadic color scheme for this block. Blue Green, Red Violet, and Yellow Orange. It's a little different, but I think it will make into a beautiful block when embelishments are added. What do you think?

A little bummed out!

Well, I am a little bummed out, My little laptop bit the dust on me the other day. All my favorites, all my saved blogs that I had subscribed to feeds, all my EQ classes I just took. My pictures, everything is gone. Now I am sharing my husbands computer , it is his work computer so I have to be careful of what I do on this one. (g) At least I have email, may not be as quick as instant messenger but it beats nothing. So I hope all my friends in the internet world will post on the yahoo groups when they update their blog, so I can keep in touch. I do have several saved here on my blog but not everyones. So I will still be able to see some. Plus I can go to Sharon's blog and see a lot of them too. Hey just thought of that. (g)

Dyeing Fabrics

Yesterday I played with some dyes. I done my Make Orange and Green for my swaps in my Dyehard Runoff group.

Make Orange: I used 1Lemon Yellow and 12 Light Red.
Make Green : I used 1 Lemon Yellow and 26 Sky Blue.

I tried my first piece of dyeing a motif. I wasn't sastisfied with it at all. I will have to practice some more. I used Pebeo Setacolors for this.

Motifs

Being in these yahoo groups make for good fun, friendships, and learning many things. In my CQ4 Newbies group I have made a very good friend named Candi. Candi has mailed me some of these motifs, we are going to learn to dye these adorable babies to put in our CQ work. This is going to be so much fun! We plan on picking a day to dye fabrics and our motifs, then we plan on showing what we get from our results. We may not live close enough to go to each others homes but with the aid of the computer it will be almost like it. Candi we are going to have a blast. Thank you for sharing with me.

TAST Cross Stitch

For the chain stitch I chose to do the Star filling stitch. Instead of using all the same color, on the last part of the chain stitch I would change colors. I also changed colors of thread as I moved from one color of the block to another.

Maddie's Heart

Got my second heart done today. I used a printed fabric that I had of different lighthouses from around the world. I used metallic thread and done the feather stitch upside down to represent lightning bolts. I couched a #5 pink perle cotton for the inner and outer border of the pasley and then beaded inside that. I done the spider roses for the inside of the pasley. On the other side I couched #5 perle cotton for the branch and then used a straight stitch for the ribbon flowers, then I finished it with beads. I used metallic thread in a chain stitch around the heart.

This heart is being sent to my friend Maureen who lives in Australia. Her 7 yr. old granddaughter's friend Maddie has been diagnosed with cancer. She is facing 6 months of treatments. Maureen is swapping hearts with us, and she plans on making a quilt for Maddie.

This heart carries a very special message to Maddie. The lighthouse represents Jesus. He wants Maddie to know that He is there to help her through the storms of life that she is going through. He wants her to know that He is there to help calm these storms. He sees her tears (the pasley is shaped like a tear) and he feels her pain. He wants her to know that the roses inside the pasley represents His LOVE for her. He wants her to remember He will be with her every step of the way.
Maddie, our prayers are with you!!!
