First CQ Block

This was a very trying block. I have done one cq block where you had the pattern then just sewed all the peices together. This one I cut out the center piece and went along sewing the pieces together in a clockwise manner. No patterns, just going for it. Did great till I got around to the right side then I had one long straight piece. Kept thinking this isn't going to work. Well, after thinking of how I could overcome this problem I had gotten myself into, I finally decided to do it this way and put the dk red violet in and then applique the piece over it. I also done a smaller piece over the yellow orange with a light blue green.
The center piece is off my husband's tie. Clark Gabel and Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With the Wind. Her dress was a blue green so I chose the triadic color scheme for this block. Blue Green, Red Violet, and Yellow Orange. It's a little different, but I think it will make into a beautiful block when embelishments are added. What do you think?

Thelma, I think your second block is going to be beautiful! I often wonder about a block I've just pieced, but nearly always love them after embellishment.
Keep up the good work!

Thelma, I think it's beautiful! I cannot wait to see this as you work to embellish it!

{BTW, I'm from the CQ for Newbies group and am working on my first block, too.}

Thank you Cathy,
It's lots of fun isn't it?

Thanks Janet,
I keep looking at it and wondering what am I gonna put where, etc. It's so fun just trying to think of ways to embellish. I never thought I would like cq as much as I do.

Thanks Charlene,
I thought that would give some interest to what would otherwise be a straight edge.

Thelma, this will be a beautiful block when you have embellished it, I am sure. It looks already nice.

Thelma I just think this block will be gorgeous when you have finished with it. I am a collecter of "gone with the wind" stuff but have never found any fabric with it in there. I can't wait to see it finished.

Thank you Sharon,
It is going to be fun deciding what stitches to use, etc to finish it with. I have got to find colors that will go with this, probably will go with the split complimentary scheme to have more choices of colors for the threads and ribbons, etc.

"Frankly My Dear... I just *Love* it! Your color choices are great, the curved pieces are a neat-o idea. I can't wait to see it with the seam stitchings and what you add to embellish it. Have you started on it yet? It would have been great for a RR. Let us know when you get Scarlett all dolled up, okay!? It's already beautiful!
