Build A Seam Week 1

In our CQINovice group we are doing a weekly challenge called Build A Seam. Kerry started us off doing circles in a chain stitch, then we take and build on this seam. First I done the circles in chain stitch.

Then I added straight stitch to give it a thorny look.

Then I added bullion for the roses, fly stitch , and feather stitch. I will probably add beads or maybe some bullions on the feather stitching but I have the seam above it to do before I add those on. Looking forward to next weeks stitches.

Forget-Me-Not Myosotis sylvatica

Moving right along here is flower #5, the Forget-Me-Not. Stitches used were French Knots, detached chain.

Heartsease (Johnny Jump-up) Viola tricolor

Flower #4 is the Heartease. It was easy to do,,stitches consist of buttonhole, detached chain, and French Knot.

Daddie's Ties are Momma's Now

I am getting things ready for the Victorian Stitchery Retreat that will be held November 6-8 in Wichita Kansas. I am taking classes with Carole Samples,,learning to use her templates and learning how to make the fan block with the beautiful lace she has done. I'm very excited. At first I thought I would dye some fabrics and use those cause I didn't think I had enough ties to do more than one block,,,boy was I wrong. I believe I had 19 of DH ties that I was able to cut up for my upcoming project. Well, two of them were my two youngest boys ties. So I have all kinds of variety here. If your registered to go to this retreat please leave a message and let me know. So looking forward to meeting everyone.

Stichin Fingers

I belong to several of the stichin fingers group. So I decided to combine two with one. In the Hand Embroidery group Sharon listed a long list of stitches for us to work with and practice with. I also belong to the Fabric Book group with Pat Winter.
I just now am finally getting to work on that. I purchased Diana Lampe with Jane Fisk book Embroidery for all Season. My fabric page when completed will be the Cottage Garden. There will be 16 different flowers done for the first page of my fabric book. Then the Spring Garden which will have 18 different flowers,Summer Garden with 23 flowers,Kardinal Rose Garden with 9,Autumn Garden with 20,and Winter Garden with 19. So that will give me 6 pages for my fabric book. Also being able to use the different stitches to make these flowers will get a lot of the stitches on Sharons list for the hand embroidery.

Rose (Standard) Rosa
Stiches used were stem stitch, detached chain, and bullion.

Foxglove Digitalis purpurea
Stitches used Stem stitch,Buttonhole stitch, French knots, and Satin leaf stitch.

Agapanthus Agapanthus orientalis
This was done on a practice cloth,,probably will use this for a silkie on a cq block. But it does has it's place on my fabric page. Stitches used were Fly stitch, Whipped stem stitch, and stem stitch.

And here is the beginnings of my fabric page.

The fabric chosen for this project was a gift from my friend Karen Waldie. We belong to dyehard group, a group of fabric dyers. This was one of her snow dyed pieces of fabric.

Breast Cancer Block

It feels so good to have gotten something accomplished again,,it's been such a long time. This is my embellished block that will be sent to Leslie who will be making a quilt. Many talented Ladies are partaking of this wonderful opportunity and I feel honored to be a part of the group. If I understand correctly, the quilt will travel for a year and then be auctioned off and the monies given for breast cancer research. I know I probably don't have this info correct,,but anyways I was pleased to be a part of it.

I found the neatest little charms at Hobby Lobby that I thought made the block .

I don't know why I chose to try new stitches working on this block,,but I did..
here is the bullion. It was suppose to look like a rose bud but it didn't turn out quite right,,but I think it looks ok.

And here is the whipped circle.

I hope it doesn't take me as long to post a message for next time,,hope you enjoyed looking.
